Cast Party

Cast Party...Saturday, June 1st @ 2:30pm...Stake Park

Everyone bring a snack/treat/dessert to share.  We will provide some kind of liquid refreshment.

The plan is to just hang out and visit...and possibly some "awards" will be given.

We will not do a slide show at this time but will have another get-together at the end of the summer/first of fall to do that (gotta give me some time to go thru the thousands of pictures and put it all together for all of you).

Love you all...see you in a few weeks!  I miss you already!

Teen Boys Update

**UPDATE for the TEEN BOYS**

Talking to several boys last night, there are still several of you who need basic accessories---so I rounded up a few more suspenders, vests, hats and bow ties to borrow; I will have them to check out tonight.  If possible, wear your whole outfit (even if you've already shown me pieces) so we can match your accessories accurately and not be scrambling on Saturday & Monday to outfit you before the show.

I also went and bought a few items, if you want to purchase them from me instead of picking through the borrowed odds and ends or going to a store to buy your own.
I have:
  • 5 pair of black suspenders -$6 ea
  • 10 pair of white suspenders -$6 (you all have to have these for Shapoopi but not to wear the rest of the show)
  • misc Bow Ties -$10 (if you want to keep them after the show)
  • 2 black & brown hats -$3 ea
Thanks,
Annette

Boys Band Update

**UPDATE** Boys Band--

The boys band dressing room will be where we store your costumes and where you will change.  The Green Room (Primary Room) is where all cast members will wait until they are needed on stage.  All boys need to understand that you will be changing together in the same room; if you are uncomfortable with that then either wear a pair of tight shorts under your pants or bring a blanket you can have someone hold up to dress behind.  I don't want the band uniform pieces to be taken out of the dressing room to be changed into in the bathrooms.

I will have a small bin for each of the boys with their pant & hat in it which can be used to store their other accessories when they are not using them.  They will have to have their own white button down shirt (most of you are wearing them for your costume anyway).  Once you have removed all your basic costume pieces and put on your band pants and hat, you will then come to me and get your jackets which will be hung on the coat rack just outside your dressing room.

After the show, come directly back to the dressing room, give me your jacket and place your hat & pants back in your marked bin.  Bring me your full bin to get a going home goodie each night!

Any questions?

Costume Care/Lost and Found

Costume Care/ Lost and Found--

I gathered up several lost costume pieces after practice. With over 100 people in our play, keeping track of everyone's costume pieces is going to be a NIGHTMARE if I don't have all of your help. If you have signed out a costume that means you are now responsible for that costume, keeping all the pieces together, keeping it clean and looking stage ready, until you turn it in at the end of our run of performances. We do not have the time, patience or budget to make or replace lost or ruined costumes.

Several of the pieces we have rented or borrowed from generous donors that have asked us NOT to wash the items (some we will be responsible to dry clean). This means that if you have a rented or borrowed costume, you need to wear it only when necessary so it will not need cleaning before the shows--especially the kids, we do not need to see them in costume every night until official dress rehearsals. DO NOT EAT in your costumes. DO NOT take them off for a costume change and leave them in a crumpled pile on the floor. DO NOT ROLL on the ground or run around playing in your costumes (yeah, I'm talking to you Pickalittles) or they are just going to look thrashed by our first show next week.

I suggest that everyone get a tote, box or bin of some kind to keep your extra pieces in. Your container needs to be labeled along with ALL your costume pieces labeled (use masking tape for borrowed pieces so there is no permanent marking). During practices, you can use the Primary & Relief Society rooms to store your items if they are not being used; we will have official designated dressing rooms next week.  While you are not wearing your costumes, keep them hung up nicely so they don't have to be repeatedly steamed or pressed (which will eventually melt the hot glue I constructed them with --haha, just kidding- kind of :).

Please DO NOT mess with other people's stuff--if it's not yours don't touch it --. Please don't leave valuables unattended -keep them in the trunk of your car (where they can't be seen) or at home if you don't absolutely have to bring it.
Thanks for all your help with this!

A note about costumes

From Annette:

A huge THANK YOU to everyone for all of the work you have put into finding, making & altering clothing for your Music Man costumes.  The play has been such a huge undertaking for everyone and it is just going to be fabulous!

There are just a few things on the costume front that we need to take note of as we move forward this week and into dress rehearsals next week....

**ALL CAST MEMBERS** There are still several people that have not shown me any costume pieces yet and even more people who need to show me completed costumes.  I will be at practice on Friday and Saturday in the classrooms on the south side of the building for you to come get your costume marked off.  PLEASE PUT YOUR COSTUME ON for me to see; it is really hard to give you real feedback in the hypothetical :)

**THOSE WHO STILL NEED HELP WITH COSTUMES**  If you still need help for any reason (no time, no luck finding stuff, can't spend any more money, etc.) please call me directly and we can problem solve your situation.  My cell phone # is 801-860-9618.  I have lots of items that people have given me for others to use but I'm not sure who still needs help. Many of you have talked to me in passing when I haven't had my binder to make a note, if this is the case please contact me again to make sure I have you down on my list.

I also met with a lady this week that rents costumes-- for our church group she will rent pieces for 50% off her regular (really cheep) prices, just tell her you are with our stake and musical.
Here is her contact information:
Broadway Attire for Hire
Laura Garner
1967 W. 13930 S. (1 block south of Bangerter & 2 blocks west of Redwood Road)
Bluffdale, UT 84065
801-680-1192

Price examples- Dresses $10, Hats $2-$5,Skirts $3

I picked up a bunch of TEEN GIRL dresses from her that I will bring to practice on Friday & Saturday for anyone to rent ($10) from her.  Whatever we don't use, I will just take back to her at no cost.  She has tons of hats, men & women's that will work for this time period if you are still looking.

**TEEN GIRLS NOT IN SHAPOOPI**
because you don't have jackets & hats to put on to look like you have different clothes like the women, men and boys do, it would be great if you had a 2nd costume option but IS NOT MANDATORY.  You can use the Shapoopi skirt pattern to make a skirt for $2.50 from a sheet (2 skirts per twin sheet).  One shirt should be fine for the whole play.  I also have dresses that can be rented (from the Broadway Attire lady) for $10-- if you are interested talk to me on Friday/Saturday.  You also need to have bloomers to your knees but not showing under your skirt when just standing.  If you have white capri legging with or without lace on the bottom, those will work.  To make bloomers, take a pair of loose fitting sweats or pj's your size, fold them in half and use it as a pattern.  They do not need to be gathered/elastic at the knee but can have lace on the bottom.

**SHAPOOPI TEENS**
BOYS- you will need white suspenders and a white shirt for Shapoopi--- I will be getting you bow ties to match your partner's skirt.  You will wear whatever pants & shoes you are using for the rest of the play.  Make sure you match your socks to your pants!!  If you can't get white suspenders, let me know and I will get them--- these can't be worn as regular suspenders through the rest of the show.

GIRLS- I am making your skirts, sash, hair bow and bloomers; you are responsible to get white tights and a white/cream lacy shirt with a lower collar & 3/4 sleeves and shoes.  The alteration instructions I passed out is just one option you could follow if you needed an idea.  You are welcome to wear your Shapoopi dress the whole play but because you don't have jackets & hats to put on to look like you have different clothes like the women, men and boys do, it would be great if you had a 2nd costume option ---but IS NOT MANDATORY.

**MALES OF ALL AGES** make sure you match your socks to your pants!! NO WHITE SOCKS :)

**WA TAN YE GIRLS**
Many of you have asked me about your costume changes.  Brother Goodman wants us to get some use out of your Indian dresses-- so you will wear them from the Wa Tan Ye part through 76 Trombones and again at the end during the Ice Cream Social. This will act as your 2nd costume so you DO NOT need more than one dress.

Any other questions, let me know :)!

Teen Skirt Pattern

Attached is a simple pattern/instructions to make the mid-calf skirt that Tannen modeled when we went over costumes.  I need to clarify that you do not have to use this pattern, it is just an option for this age group.  Using the Teen Dancer & Girls Costume handouts as a guide you can gather whatever costume pieces you would like.  If you need help, let me know otherwise I will assume you are on top of it. :)

We will be using this pattern for the Shapoopi dresses for the teen girls who are dancing that part.  If you are one of these dancers, DO NOT BUY MATERIAL YET!  When I get the final count, we will decide on colors and assign each couple a color.  I will give you more instructions when these plans are finalized.
Thank you all for your patience as I figure this all out.
